Ben went bang!

Have you ever had one of those moments when it seems like time is suspended? I watched my son swing into a tree this evening. It was one of those very cool tree swings that hangs from a very high limb. The kids were swinging really long and high swings and having the time of their lives. My son was enjoying himself and I would occasionally check on him out of the corner of my eye as I chatted with a friend on the other side of the yard. All of a sudden, the kid pushing Ben had unintentionally tilted him and he was going off kilter and in danger of hitting the tree trunk on the return swing. This is when the slow motion in my mind started. I thought if the kid pushes Ben again like that, he will in fact ram his back into the tree trunk on the next return swing. Of course, the tilted push was made again and I woke up out of my daze and started dashing across the yard. Unfortunately, I didn't make it there in time and Ben wacked into the trunk. Thank God he was alright, probably partly because he didn't anticipate it coming and so wasn't tensed up for the impact. He ended up with a brush burn on his back. Lucky him. Lucky me.
